In the early 1940s, Frederick Charles Krueger was born as the result of the rape of the nun Amanda Krueger by inmates at the asylum where she worked. After being put up for adoption, the boy was raised and subjected to both physical and mental abuse by the alcoholic Mr. Underwood—whom he eventually murdered. Years later, Freddy married Loretta and had a daughter with her while living at 1665 Elm Street; however, he killed his wife after she discovered that he spent his spare time kidnapping and torturing children in the basement—an act that also cost him custody of his daughter. Seeking revenge, Freddy set out to murder the children of Springwood at the factory where he worked, yet he managed to escape conviction at his subsequent trial. Faced with this injustice, the parents banded together to trap Freddy inside his factory and burn him alive... but he was not truly dead.

A gaunt American male with blue eyes, rotted teeth, horribly burned skin, and no hair. He wears a battered hat, a dirty green-black-and-red striped sweater, dark trousers, worn black boots, and his signature mechanical glove with sharp blades welded on as fingernails (although in «A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge», these claws manifest directly from his own fingers). Equally wicked and mocking, he infiltrates his victims' dreams to torment them at will, all while they face the danger of dying in real life.
