He was originally known as Jedidiah Sawyer (or Bubba), the "foolish son" of an American family that practiced cannibalism. According to the 2003 remake and its prequel, he was born in Travis County in 1939 as a deformed and mentally challenged individual who was abandoned in the trash after his mother died during childbirth. He was found and adopted by Luda Mae Hewitt, who named him Thomas Hewitt. Thirty years later, he killed the manager of the recently closed slaughterhouse where he worked, thus beginning a series of murders in Texas.
A deformed and psychologically disabled human with some excess weight who usually covers his face with masks he makes himself from the skin of his victims. His sociopathy stemmed from the numerous abuses he had suffered throughout his life, although it could be argued that he only kills in self-defense or because he has been ordered to.
