Davy Jones was a legendary pirate who had devoted himself to the capricious sea goddess Calypso; she ultimately broke a pact, driving Jones—tormented by love—to tear out his own heart, place it in a chest, and hide it in a location unknown even to Calypso. From then on, he would roam the seas eternally, captaining the mythical Flying Dutchman and commanding a band of humanoid sea monsters.
A khaki-terracotta humanoid with an octopus head and blue eyes; he has a pincer for a left arm, a tentacle for a right-hand finger, and a crab leg for a right leg. He wears a tattered, dark-gray pirate outfit encrusted with barnacles: a tricorn hat, a coat worn over another cinched with a wide belt, trousers, and a single boot. He is cruel, proud, and somewhat nihilistic. He keeps the Kraken as a pet and cannot set foot on land.
