After graduating from Gotham City State University, Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel worked as a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum until she fell in love with the Joker, surrendering to madness and serving the Clown Prince of Crime with zeal, despite the abuse he often inflicted upon her. During a period when the two appeared to have split up, she met Poison Ivy and forged a strong bond with her—though she ultimately chose to accept the Joker's flimsy apologies and part ways with her close friend, who nonetheless continued to offer her support whenever she needed it.
She has a slender build, blue eyes, and fair skin—her face painted white—with crimson lips and blonde hair tied in pigtails. Of all the outfits she might have worn, her most distinctive look consists of a form-fitting black-and-red harlequin suit with off-white accents, a jester’s cap in the same color scheme, and a dark domino mask. She possesses a boisterous, impetuous personality and displays an unhealthy submissiveness toward the Joker, even though she is occasionally aware that her actions are wrong. She is a superb gymnast and, thanks to a gift from Poison Ivy, is resistant to toxins.
