Raised in an unfavorable environment, Edward Nygma (or Eddie Nashton) became obsessed with puzzles and word games at an early age, developing an extensive knowledge of the subject that allowed him to make a living by swindling people with all manner of tricks. However, his ambition to prove himself smarter than Batman would ultimately drive him into a life of villainy and lead him to adopt the persona of the "Riddler."
A tall, lanky white man with coppery hair, dressed in formal green and purple attire featuring black-inscribed question marks (typically a bowler hat, domino mask, a jacket worn over a shirt and tie, leather-like gloves, long trousers, and pointed shoes). He is an arrogant, sharp-witted criminal who prefers to confront his adversaries by posing riddles rather than engaging in direct combat.
